Tooling Services

Mould tooling, toolmaking, on-site and off-site tool repairs and modifications.

With decades of toolmaking experience in different sectors and various types of tools, Velocetec can manufacture the tool you need.

Our forward-thinking mentality allows us to manufacture your tooling using the right mix of modern and traditional techniques. We use process-shortening strategies and high-speed machining for rapid and responsive part manufacture. Using time-earned, highly skilled manual processes, we build these parts into the final, functional tool. You get your tooling on time and your manufacturing or trialling timescales stay on track.

We can review your component to check for feasibility and offer optimisation possibilities before manufacture. We’ll support your design or engineering team by advising on tool format, draft angles, wall sections and the feed type to suit the injection moulding process. We can design and produce your mould tool from start to finish and will advise you on the best solutions and problem-solve any tooling issues prior to manufacture.

You’ll get the best possible result in a tool that is engineered rapidly and accurately and delivered on time.

NEW TOOLING

Whether you need rapid prototyping, bridging or production mould tooling, Velocetec is fully equipped to manage, machine, finish and build your tooling – all under one roof. We hold stock of various sizes and grades of aluminium and steel and work closely with our suppliers to minimise lead times for materials and hardware. This allows us to go from design to fully built tooling in the shortest possible times.

We can manufacture all the components you require for kit forms: core and cavity form blocks, bolster kits, plate work and inserts. For a low-cost, high-speed solution to your capacity issues, we can design and manufacture them for you, then deliver them ready to be assembled by your team.

Typically made in aluminium, with manually loaded loose inserts, prototype tools allow you to mould production representative components from your intended materials. With rapid prototype moulded parts from Velocetec, you can undertake functional testing and verify component design at lower cost before committing to hard, high volume production tooling.

Usually manufactured from aluminium – or steel if the volumes justify it – we can manufacture the bridging tools you need before you introduce new or delayed production tooling. This supports your testing, pre-production build phases and start-of-production ramp up, eliminating delays and ensuring the continuity of your manufacturing process.

We can manufacture your production tools in a variety of materials – aluminium for low volumes, or different grades of P20 or hardened steel, depending on the volumes you need and your surface finish specifications. To minimise cycle times and maximise repeatability, automatic movers and optimised feed systems are used with single or multiple impressions.

EXISTING MOULD TOOLING SERVICING

To keep your manufacturing costs to a minimum, you’ll need tools that are in optimum condition. For that, we provide a full range of mould tooling servicing that will limit your down time and prolong the life of your tools.

There’s not always a need to build a new tool. Sometimes it’s more time-effective to re-engineer or optimise your existing tools, modifying them to meet new requirements.

Where you don’t need to have an entirely new tool made, we can supply the necessary tool components to replace damaged parts, or for use by your toolroom when they want to implement a design change to an existing tool.

Maintaining and improving the integrity of your tools reduces your costs in the long-term. We can service your tools at our facility, assessing their condition and providing a condition report if required, as well as undertaking any remedial work needed. You can simply book a one-off service visit when you want. Or for total peace of mind, you can purchase an ongoing servicing plan.

We can repair your tools at our site to rectify general wear and tear and can repair them in the event of an emergency breakdown. We’ll assess the damage, then strip your tool, before repairing or replacing any worn or damaged components. We can weld, re-bed and refurbish your tool, and diagnose and resolve any hot-runner/feed concerns so that it is back to a fully-operational condition.

MOBILE ON-SITE SERVICES

When you have a breakdown, you might not always have the luxury of being able to send your tool out for repair. This means stopping your line and delaying production – often for several days. Or perhaps your components are too large for transportation.

To avoid the expense and inconvenience of shipping your tools off-site, take advantage of our mobile services, allowing our experienced toolmakers to repair your tools on-site. We’ll come to you and can either work independently or together with your toolroom staff. Our talented on-site toolmakers are equipped with a full complement of hand tools, power tools and air tools and are proficient in the use of standard toolroom equipment. We adhere to health and safety regulations and maintain high standards, including the use of PPE.

We provide these services on-site at your facility:

We offer trial support for T0+ mould trials of new, refurbished or repaired tooling at your site, providing you with the supporting documentation if required.

Where problematic tooling is causing you a high scrap rate or if you have inconsistent parts, we can assess your tool during production and implement or advise on remedial actions to rectify the issues.
